Calling all Bike-Powered Families!

Is your family bike-powered, or do you know one that is? Are you or someone you know committed to getting there by bicycle whenever possible?

Tell me about it!

I’m surveying bike-powered families in the U.S. and abroad, and I need your help to get the word out to a broad cross-section of our communities. If you want to help, download the Bike-Powered Families Questionnaire and distribute it widely, by printing or emailing, and ask respondents to get back to me by June 30.

As Assistant Editor for Boneshaker: A Bicycling Almanac, I’m always thinking about the role the bicycle plays in our lives. On the daily commute, I’m continually impressed by the wide range of approaches to family cycling. Moms and Dads ride Xtracycles, pull trailers, tool around with stylish Bakfiets, and rock the classic kids’ bike seats. I see parents encouraging their little guys up the hill and guiding them through crowds on their Strider bikes. I hear kids singing to their parents in the rain, and snippets of conversation about  passing trees, flowers, and vegetables growing in neighborhood gardens.

How we move together says a lot about where we’re going, and I want to hear from the parents and kids on the road.

P.S. You can check out my story on bicycle-reliant farmers in the latest issue of Boneshaker, just published this May.
